Dear Mathematical Oncology Community,
After long delay due to COVID and related pandemic insanity, we are excited to re-propose the inaugural Mathematical Oncology meeting to be held April 30 - May 3, 2023. This international meeting builds on the robust legacy of growing initiatives related to the application of mathematical and computational approaches in cancer biology and clinical oncology with a themed focus on sex differences.
The successful NCI-funded Cancer Systems Biology Consortium (CSBC) and the NCI-funded Physical Sciences in Oncology Consortium (PSOC) that drove a series of NCI-funded Mathematical Oncology meetings in Berkeley (2010), Tampa (2012 and 2014), Phoenix (2017) and Portland (2019). The establishment of the Mathematical Oncology Subgroup within the Society for Mathematical Biology in 2018. The launching of the "Mathematical Oncology Newsletter" in 2018 which now has over 1.5K subscribers and the Mathematical Oncology Blog. Additionally, the James S. McDonnell Foundation has supported a think tank focused on sex differences in brain cancer in February 2018 and has historically funded numerous scientific projects in brain cancer and complex systems.
To support the growing momentum in our field of Mathematical Oncology, we feel the time is ripe to establish a new regularly recurring (annual or bi-annual) meeting that will provide an international venue for collaboration, integration, training and synergy for our exciting fusion of disciplines.
In order to facilitate this 1st meeting we have funding from both the NCI CSBC and the James S. McDonnell Foundation. We have funding to support keynote speakers as well as a small number of junior investigator fellowships. We would greatly appreciate you sharing your availability to participate in this meeting! Our timeline is tight with a call for abstracts to be announced shortly with receipt deadline at the end of February.
We look forward to seeing you in sunny Phoenix to launch the next chapter in Mathematical Oncology as we leverage the power of mathematics to drive forward positive change for patients with cancer.
Please respond to the survey by Jan 27.
Sincerely,
Kristin Swanson (Mayo) & Sandy Anderson (Moffitt)
